Electronic Fencing, For Pet Containment, What You Need To Know!

Did you ever consider that there may be a better option to conventional fencing for keeping your pet contained and safe and it can literally save you thousands? We will discuss a couple of types of electronic fencing in this article that can safely contain both dogs and cats and the benefits to you.

Electronic dog fencing and cat fencing is the perfect way to keep your dog or cat safe and secure in the yard without having to put up expensive fencing. In some localities you may be restricted from installing a conventional wood, vinyl or chain link fence. Whatever the reason, electronic dog fencing is a low-cost but extremely viable solution in keeping your pet safe without the need to hamper the view in any way. What’s more is that it can cover a very large area making the system very flexible.

You can choose from two types of electronic dog fence, one being an underground fence and the other a wireless fence which provides you with portability. Each of these systems works in a similar way, where each system sends out a signal that is picked up by a receiver collar the dog or cat wears. If your pet gets to close to the perimeter area, the receiver collar will administer an effective but harmless correction, keeping your dogs or cats safely contained on your property . It is strongly recommended that the dog or cat is trained as to where the boundaries are and with both systems small flags that can be stuck into the ground are provided. By placing the flags around the perimeter of the fence both you and your pet will know the boundaries which aids in the training process.. Both the underground and wireless system will be discussed in this article.

The wired system or underground fence is the less expensive of the two and is usually buried 1 to 2 inches below ground around the perimeter of the yard. The underground fence can also be installed above ground with the use of sod staples. The wire starts and finishes at a transmitter which needs to be placed in a shed or garage, or any other place that protects it from the elements. It also requires a power source. Depending on the particular model these systems can provide containment for a small yard up to a large property of 100 acres. Picture the cost of constructing a traditional fence for that area! With your fence installed, the dog will wear a receiver collar that picks up the signal transmitted through the boundary wire and if he comes to close to the boundary the collar will administer a static correction keeping him in the yard.

The second option is the so-called wireless fence system. Not having wire to run makes this system much easier to install. Plug it in, set the transmitters boundary range and begin the training process. This system is quite flexible as you have the ability to change the range if you desire. It is slightly more expensive than the hard- wired system, but its portability means you could take it along with your dog on a camping vacation, or wherever you may be traveling. If you have a lot of land, you can also purchase additional transmitters and increase the range.
Basically, how this system works is it will cover a radial area of say 30 feet up to 3/4 of an acre depending on the particular unit you purchase. The transmitters signal to the collar grows weaker as the dog approaches the boundary limit until such time that the collar activates and delivers a static correction bring the dog back within the boundary keeping him safe.

No matter which system you decide upon, underground fence or wireless fence for your pet fencing needs, you can rest assured that the system will deliver a low-cost efficient and effective option to conventional fencing and keep your pets safe and sound on your property.
